ABOUT THE ARTIST:

A student of the human form, Alexis Silk combines her knowledge of anatomy and her passion for fire to create female figures in cast metal and hot sculpted glass. Receiving her BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, she specialized in foundry. Simultaneously and independently she pursued both glass blowing and sculpting.

The sculptures of Alexis Silk portray the female form as strong and sensual, with an emphasis on sexuality as strength. Her work questions gender roles and stereotypes associated with the American female.  Intrinsically beautiful, her work subtly targets issues such as the preconceptions and prejudice limiting women’s roles in the work force in conjunction with body image stereotypes.

Based in San Francisco, Alexis creates each fine art piece individually.  The glass torsos are reminiscent of dancers, expressing gesture and freedom through form, emphasizing female anatomy and concepts.  Using classical technique combined with contemporary form and design she creates uniquely figurative sculptures, as well as vases, bowls and platters. These hand blown and hot sculpted glass sculptures and vessels are created free hand without the use of molds.

Alexis’ solid glass figures and blown glass forms create sculptures that are aesthetic, conceptual and contemporary, using traditional techniques in a way that is contemporary and completely unique.  You can find Alexis Silk and Andrew Noga's work in gallery's and exhibitions nationwide.
